Maleficent is dark fantasy film released in 2014, with Robert Stromberg making his directorial debut and was produced by Joe Roth.

A vengeful fairy is driven to curse an infant princess, only to discover that the child may be the one person who can restore peace to their troubled land.

The budget for the film was initially estimated at $130-200 million and principal photography began on June 18th 2012, ultimately the budget was $180 million with a box office of $758.4 million.

The film featured an array of A list celebrities including Angelina Jolie (as well as her daughter), Elle Fanning, Sharlto Copley and Juno Temple.

Maleficent received mixed reviews from critics, including a 49% approval rating from Rotten Tomatoes whose consensus read ‘Angelina Jolie’s magnetic performance outshines Maleficent’s dazzling special effects; unfortunately, the movie around them fails to justify all that impressive effort’. It was however given an ‘A’ grade by CinemaScore on a scale of A+ to F.
